ABOUT US
Why A Women's Practice
Is this you?
You're the one everyone calls "so on top of it", the default parent, planner, and rememberer of birthdays, running tomorrow like a flight control tower before your head even hits the pillow. You've done the self-care: the journal, the app, the Sunday reset. The exhaustion didn't move, because it was never a hygiene problem. Maybe you're somewhere between 38 and 55, and your mood, sleep, memory and sense of self have quietly rearranged themselves while your bloodwork came back "normal." Maybe you had a baby, and everyone asks about the baby. Maybe you've spent your whole life being "so mature," "so sensitive," "so organized", and you're starting to suspect your brain has always worked differently, and you just got very good at hiding it. If your shoulders dropped half an inch reading any of that: welcome. None of it means something is wrong with you. Most of it means you've been carrying more than one person's share for a very long time, and carrying it well, which is exactly why nobody noticed.

Empower
Growth
The load you're carrying has a name. Researchers have been measuring it.
Sociologist Allison Daminger spent years interviewing couples about who actually runs a household, not who does the dishes, but who notices the dishes need doing, anticipates the needs, weighs the options, makes the call, and monitors whether it happened. She calls it cognitive labor, and her research found it falls overwhelmingly to women. Sociologist Arlie Hochschild documented the emotional half of the same job decades ago: women become responsible, by default, for managing the feelings of the whole family.
So when you sit down at 9 p.m., finally alone, and your mind will not stop — that is not a defect in you. That is a nervous system doing unpaid project management for an entire household, around the clock, without acknowledgment.

We take a different position.
The anxiety, the burnout, the flash of resentment when someone asks "what's for dinner", these are usually reasonable responses to invisible workloads, shifting biology, old survival patterns, and roles you inherited without ever agreeing to them.
Therapy at Truepath is where we sort out which part is circumstance, which part is pattern, and which parts are actually yours to change. Then we change them, at a pace your nervous system can keep.
What we hold to, three commitments, no fine print.
-
You don't have to earn rest, or therapy: you don't need a crisis or a diagnosis to deserve support, and "I'm functioning, but I'm not okay" is reason enough, it might be the most common sentence spoken in our offices.
-
Warmth and rigour aren't opposites: sessions here feel human, you can cry, laugh, swear, or sit in silence, while the work underneath stays clinical, trauma-informed and evidence-based.
-
And the goal is your life, not more therapy, we aim for change you keep, we review progress openly, and when it's time to finish, we'll say so.
Quick Answers

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes, in-person at 204B-2120 Kensington Road NW in Calgary's Kensington neighbourhood, and secure online sessions across Alberta.
Who will I see?
Truepath is women-led. You'll work with Chanelle Gagné, RSW or Kia Bhaidani, RSW, both Registered Social Workers regulated through the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Is this covered by my benefits?
Most extended health plans in Alberta cover Registered Social Workers, including many plans that don't cover other therapy designations. We offer direct billing with most major insurers and will help you confirm your coverage before your first session.
Do I need to be in crisis to come?
No. Most of our clients are holding everything together impressively well. "Functioning" and "flourishing" are different things, and the gap between them is exactly what therapy is for.

How long does therapy take?
Honestly, it depends on the goal. Some work resolves in a handful of sessions; deeper patterns take longer. We review progress openly and we don't stretch things out. When it's time to finish, we'll say so.
What approaches do you use?
Trauma-informed and evidence-based, drawing on IFS, emotionally focused work, CBT, narrative and attachment-based approaches, matched to you rather than applied from a template.
How do I start?
Book a free 15-minute consult. No commitment, no pressure, it's a conversation to see whether we're the right fit. If we're not, we'll point you toward someone who is.

For the calm exterior with the sprinting interior. The overthinking, the reassurance-seeking, the 2 a.m. replay of a conversation from 2019. We work with what the anxiety is protecting, not just what it's doing.
You already know you "should set boundaries." Knowing was never the problem. We work on what makes the guilt so loud — where the pleasing pattern came from, and what it once protected you from — so that "no" stops costing you three days of spiralling.
Mood swings, rage that surprises you, brain fog, anxiety that arrived out of nowhere in your forties. Research is unambiguous: this transition carries real, elevated mental health risk. You're not imagining it, and you're not "just stressed."
Not the kind a long weekend fixes. The kind where rest stops restoring you, everything feels heavy, and you can't remember what you used to enjoy. We treat burnout as depletion with causes — not a character flaw with a candle.

Trying to help someone get here? If you're reading this on behalf of your partner, your sister, your friend, your mom: welcome. You've probably watched her insist she's fine while doing the work of three people. You can't make her book, but you can send her this page, take something real off her plate today, and let her know that therapy here doesn't require a crisis or a diagnosis. Just a first conversation. The consult is free and fifteen minutes. Sometimes that's all the permission someone needs.
