On the outside: organized-ish, employed, personable, fine. On the inside: a browser with a hundred tabs, elaborate systems held together with adrenaline and shame. In childhood, boys are referred and diagnosed with ADHD at several times the rate of girls; in adult samples the gap narrows sharply. An enormous number of women are therefore identified late, or never, because the presentation is quieter and the compensating starts early. Stephen Hinshaw's Berkeley Girls with ADHD Longitudinal Study, which followed girls with childhood ADHD for two decades, found the impairment does not fade with age. It changes shape.
A parallel literature on autism describes "camouflaging," and studies find autistic women tend to camouflage more than men, with higher camouflaging predicting later diagnosis. You were literally too good at hiding it. Not broken. Never broken. Just built differently, and finally, read correctly.
This is therapy that starts from that same premise. Your brain isn't the problem, it's the terrain, and most of your coping strategies were built for a brain that isn't yours. We name your patterns in plain language, not diagnostic labels that flatten you. We find what's underneath the masking: the sensory load, the inherited strategies, the years spent translating yourself for other people. Then we build something that fits, test it in your real week, and tell you honestly when it's landing, and when it isn't.
We do not provide formal ADHD or autism assessments. What we can do is help you work out whether an assessment is worth pursuing, point you toward assessors in Calgary, support you before and after if you go ahead, and work with you either way. A diagnosis is not a requirement for any of this.
